GDC (Game Developers Conference) is where the freshest and most exciting tech gets showcased.
There has been a virtual reality presence at previous GDC’s of course, however at this particular convention there was a change in the air, and certainly there was one aspect of VR that really dominated at GDC 2017, and that was that the technology has broken free, and now it has done this is there any turning back?
For gamers the fact that VR tethered them to their PC’s was always a frustration, now however there is a massive effort to break away from the cords that bind them.
Of course it is no secret that people, both consumers and producers, want wireless virtual reality and lets be honest it is the key to VR’s long term success.
While of course some big names in the VR industry are moving towards wireless, it is nice to see that some of the ‘smaller’ players are also taking the plunge, of course the quality and the content on these devices may be questionable, it certainly feels that the virtual reality industry is a whole is headed in the right direction, certainly the one where users want to see it go!
VR as a whole is still very much an ‘infant’ technology but now the wireless baby has been born we can not wait to see how it will grow.
