Hello, and welcome to another Augmented Reality Roundup! We’ll be publishing monthly AR news roundups where we’ll be looking at the latest news and updates around augmented reality – just in case you’re interested!
So, without further ado, let’s check out some of what’s been going on in August.
TikTok is building its own augmented reality platform
From sea shanties to seagull feeding, restaurant server stories to celebrity chefs, dance trends to dire moments – and everything in-between!

That’s right, TikTok has found its way into our hearts, but now there’s another reason to pay attention to everyone’s favourite app when it comes to embracing the random.
They’ll be following Facebook and Snap by making their own set of augmented developer tools – and we’re actually quite excited at the prospect. It should one day allow creators to build AR effects for the app.
The platform, currently in private beta, is apparently going by the name of TikTok Effect Studio according to a recent this article from TechCrunch. Watch this space!
AR has delivered experiences when we need them most
If there’s anything we’ve learned over the past couple of years, it’s that uncertainty reigns.

“Ongoing uncertainty means the shift to the virtual world isn’t slowing anytime soon, so what we need is a lot less watching and more experiencing. That is exactly what AR/VR can deliver.” (Source: Nasdaq)
We couldn’t agree more. The current situation has definitely helped to accelerate the growth of the AR market – and when you can bring engaging, memorable experiences straight into your customers’ homes, is anyone really surprised?
Are augmented reality ‘smart’ contact lenses the future?
We keep hearing contrasting things about how possible ‘smart’ AR contact lenses are going to be – at least in the near future – but we have to admit, the idea of having augmented reality play a bigger part in our lives is incredibly exciting!

We shared this story from VOA News earlier on in the week, so check out the video and let us know your thoughts. What’s your opinion on ‘smart’ contact lenses – would you wear them, or just stick to glasses?
To sum it up…
It feels like every other day there’s another new development concerning AR. The market is becoming more diverse with new possibilities constantly opening up – and it’s growing exponentially.
If there was ever a time to make an impact with augmented reality for your brand, it’s now.
