DigiLens raises $22 million to make ‘eyeglass-thin’ augmented reality displays

DigiLens has raised $22 million to create “eyeglass-thin” AR displays for motorcycle helmets, car windshields, AR smartglasses and other innovations. CEO Jonathan Waldern said in an interview, “We enable a massive reduction in size and form factor. This funding allows us to expand our scope to focus on the next areas.” DigiLens plans to use strategic relationships with investors like Sony, Foxconn and Panasonic to bring to market several AR displays and sensors for enterprise, consumer and transportation applications that [...]

Augmented reality is the future of design

Augmented reality is the future of design

In 1992, researcher Tom Caudell coined the term Augmented Reality (AR). It’s an experience that supplements the real world with a virtual layer of information. Until recently, AR sounded like something from a cyberpunk novel. Some sort of cyborg capability that could go the way of PDAs and laser disks. However AR doesn’t rely on wearable technology (e.g.Google Glass) – and considering the millions who’ve opted for Lasik, it’s hard to imagine people embracing a constant need to wear special [...]

Augmented Reality In Entertainment Industry

Augmented reality. The words conjure thoughts of science fiction and video games. But this science fictional technology is now reality and has applications that span far beyond the video game industry. Magic Leap, an augmented reality company that received $542 million from Google, recently released a video, which showcased its technology in an ordinary real-life venue. The company’s website features a miniature elephant realistically moving around on the palms of a person’s hands. The setting of the footage is an office, [...]

Augmented Reality In Retail Industry

The retail landscape is overcrowded and customers are becoming desensitized to traditional marketing methods. That’s where augmented reality comes in. As shoppers turn to a blend of online, mobile, and bricks-and-mortar shopping for their convenience, brands and retailers are having to think of new and innovative ways in which they can capture customer attention. Virtual reality (VR), along with its sister technology augmented reality (AR), offers retailers the opportunity to transform how people shop. One customer might try on shirts [...]

Augmented Reality in training and education

Augmented Reality And Its Uses: Education And Training

There are many different ways for people to be educated and trained with regard to specific information and skills they need. These methods include classroom lectures with textbooks, computers, handheld devices, and other electronic appliances. But what if you consider augmented reality as one of them?  Augmented reality, while not necessarily a new technology, is becoming more well-known and gaining some momentum in medical education through Google Glass and Microsoft’s HoloLens. Not only can augmented reality aid in student education, [...]

Tim Cook Augmented Reality

Tim Cook: Augmented Reality Is The Future

Apple's CEO Tim Cook seems to have taken a very special liking upon the Augmented Reality technology. During his speech at tech conference in Utah, he said that AR will be even bigger than Virtual Reality!  This weekend, Cook said that it will take some time for AR to become “acceptable.” But once that happens, AR experiences will be an integral part of our daily lives, comparing the emerging technology to the iPhone and eating three meals a day. During a talk [...]
